Cette saga — titrée Millennium, dans les éditions en suédois et dans diverses autres langues (allemand, anglais, espagnol, etc.) — a obtenu un succès mondial : plus de vingt-six millions d'exemplaires vendus jusqu'en juillet 2010. Fin janvier 2011, le total des ventes s'élevait à cinquante millions d'exemplaires.
