Quand Cassandra Cassidy, une jeune interne à l’hôpital de Boston, épouse le docteur Thomas Kingsley, c’est pour elle un rêve devenu réalité. Le docteur Kingsley est le chirurgien en cardiologie le plus brillant de la ville, et peut-être de la côte Est. Son talent, sa fortune et son charme en font un parti presque inespéré pour cette jeune femme intelligente et courageuse, mais timide. Pourtant, ce qui aurait pu être un conte de fées dégénère. Entièrement dévoué à ses malades, Thomas se conduit de plus en plus en étranger hostile avec celle qui l’aime. L’échec et la révolution étaient-ils alors inscrits dès le départ dans le processus de modernisation ?

Sur le thème fascinant de la gémellité, et plus précisément des « jumeaux-miroirs », l’auteur a conçu un récit riche en action, suspense et rebondissements, qui vous réservera d’innombrables surprises. Elle n’avait pas d’alibi. Elle n’avait pas commis le crime odieux dont elle était accusée. Comment l’aurait-elle pu, alors qu’elle ignorait jusqu’à l’existence de la victime, un certain Eddie Gordon, dealer et escroc notoire ? Pourtant, six témoins l’avaient reconnue formellement lors de la séance d’identification qui avait suivi son arrestation pour meurtre. Tous juraient avoir vu Dana ce soir-là, sur le parking du bar. Jusqu’à cet enregistrement vidéo qui en apportait la preuve. Un enregistrement où on la voyait, un revolver à la main, accomplir le geste fatal… A présent, Dana sentait sa raison faiblir: était-elle folle ? Psychopathe ?
