Don Carlo
Don Carlos est un « grand opéra à la française » en cinq actes de Giuseppe Verdi, sur un livret de Joseph Méry et Camille du Locle, d’après la tragédie Don Carlos de Friedrich von Schiller, créé le 11 mars 1867 à l’Opéra de Paris1.
Remanié en 1884, il devient Don Carlo pour la scène italienne. C’est dans la traduction italienne qu’il conquiert les scènes mondiales, donnant lieu au mythe d’une version italienne, alors que les deux versions (1866-67 et 1884) furent composées sur un texte français.
