Alexandre III – Le Tsar des neiges
Quand, en 1881, Alexandre III succède à Alexandre II, qui vient d’être assassiné, c’est un jeune homme traumatisé et donc peu enclin aux réformes qui arrive au pouvoir. Persuadé que le libéralisme de son père a fait le lit de la violence, Alexandre III va s’employer à restaurer l’autocratie dans toute sa rigueur. S’il laisse le souvenir d’un esprit étroit, il a cependant à son actif la création du chemin de fer qui traverse les grandes plaines russes jusqu’aux neiges sibériennes, de même qu’une gestion habile de la politique extérieure après avoir détaché la Russie de ses alliances avec l’Allemagne, il œuvre au rapprochement avec la France. Au centre d’une époque troublée, cet être assez fruste, qui fut l’avant-dernier tsar de Russie, apparaît, grâce à la plume d’Henri Troyat, dans toutes ses contradictions.
Philippe Grangereau, écrivain et grand reporter, a recueilli à Séoul ce récit hallucinant. Hyok nous y décrit l'ultime forteresse communiste coupée du monde, ses camps de travail et ses exécutions publiques des « camarades » récalcitrants. Il a même dessiné, avec un vrai talent, les scènes qui l'ont le plus marqué. Hyok a fui avec ses parents, d'abord en Chine où la police les a pourchassés, puis en Corée du Sud, en 2002. The Supernaturalist
