2002. L'Extrême-Orient est près de l'embrasement depuis que le Japon s'estime menacé par le jeune État de Grande-Mandchourie, composé de territoires arrachés à l'ex-URSS et à la Chine. Mandatés par l'ONU, les Etats-Unis instaurent un blocus naval. L'US Navy se heurte alors aux sous-marins japonais Destiny. Réfractaire aux lourdeurs de la machine de guerre américaine, l'amiral Pacino, bien connu des lecteurs d' Opération Seawolf et du Sous-marin de l'Apocalypse, comprend vite qu'il n'existe qu'un moyen de ramener le Japon dans le concert des nations : réduire à néant ses visées guerrières. A l'aide de deux sous-marins de type-Seawolf, le Piranha et le Barracuda, il se lance alors dans une mission presque impossible…
Le destin de Wakefield
La vocation religieuse de Wakefield a été de courte durée. En ce début 1939, il vit à Londres, résolu à se faire un nom dans le théâtre. Il obtient un rôle dans une création, en même temps qu’une jeune comédienne, Molly Griffith, dont il tombe amoureux. Molly n’est pas insensible au charme de Wakefield. La pièce est un grand succès, Broadway l’achète et toute la troupe s’embarque pour les États-Unis. Mais la guerre éclate. Wakefield emmène Molly à Jalna pour la présenter à sa famille. Renny, troublé par certaines ressemblances, découvre que ce mariage est impossible, au grand désespoir de Wakefield qui songe au suicide. Mais la vie est la plus forte et le drame de Dunkerque le mûrit définitivement.
Regent’s Park
Mary Jargo décide de quitter son ami Alistair qui lui a reproché, avec violence, d'avoir fait un don de moelle osseuse à un inconnu atteint de leucémie. Elle est hébergée par un vieux couple d'aristocrates qui lui confient, le temps d'un voyage à l'étranger, la garde de leur chien et de leur maison situé près de Regent's-Park. Grâce à l'association de don d'organes, Mary va faire connaissance de Léo, l'homme qu'elle a sauvé. Contrairement à Alistair, qui ne cesse d'ailleurs de la poursuivre, Léo est doux, fragile, attentif. Il lui ressemble tant qu'il pourrait bien être l'homme qu'elle a toujours attendu.
