Personne ne savais grand-chose sur Adam Bates, à part qu'il était bizarre et renfermé. Il venait d'une classe d' »adaptation », comme ils disent, et je supposai qu'il avait été libéré pour bonne conduite, à la manière d'un prisonnier, afin de suivre le cours de sciences avec notre admirable classe « adaptée ». Il s'installa à côté de moi et il me plut tout de suite. Moi qui voulais devenir reporter photographe, je tenais là un excellent sujet…
